I think this is the off-license my parents ran, 71 The Avenue, from 1957 to 1962. We moved when my parents found out that the council intended to demolish properties in the area. Thank you for adding this photo. It's lovely to see it. Do you have any further information?

Picture no. 6272 is Mosses (lovely sticky) buns. The off licence was on other side of road, The Brown Jug. Mr. Strange ran it.

I don't think the off-license was called The Brown Jug. When did Mr Strange run it? What number was it? We were there from 1957 to 1962. We were on the corner, I think. Thanks.

You're spot on. Mr Moss used to have the very old beer pumps behind the sticky buns. Do you remember your pram. My sister collected it for a baby lower down the Ave, Jim

Sorry, you are correct. The Brown was on other side, corner of Carisle Place. Yes I remember your family. We lived down the ave. My dad was caretaker at the school for a while. Next door to you was Mrs Collens, who used to have a stall in Wood Green. We have reunions at the Con Club. All these pictures, plus local history, can be found there

The offey was called the Brown Jug. It was in the Ave on the corner of Carlisle Place, nearly opposite your mam and dads shop. It's in one of the pictures here on this site, which is one the best local history sites I seen, jim

That sounds likely. My pram was one of the big, traditional upright prams. So, am I right that the off license/grocery store was the property pictured above, number 71? I know some of the local children used to come in to play when I was aged three or four.

Jim, this site is lovely. These photos are very evocative of the time. It's how I remember it. I was there from one to six years old - from 1957 and we left in July 1962. I remember the name Mrs Collins. She may have done some work for my Mum. There was also a lady called Hetty who my Mum thought very highly of. She helped Mum with cleaning. And I also remember two ladies who lived in The Avenue - a mother and her daughter aged probably in her 30s. They both wore head scarves and the daughter was called Bertha. Do you still have meetings and display photos at the Conservative Club? Lovely memories, Elizabeth
