This photograph of the Pearks' shop at number 22 High Street, New Southgate is undated, but probably comes from the 1950s or early 1960s. Pearks was one of a chain of grocers and this is typical of such shops at the time. The lady on the left is Nin Spurrier and the other was known as Gert

When I was about 13 my job on a Saturday afternoon was to take all the tins of food out of the window and stack in the basement

I remember getting the shopping for my mum when I was 10 years old I used to take my baby brother in his pram and one of those lovely ladies would carry it out for me. My Nan collected the stamps for their tea cups & saucers.

How lovely to see the photo of Nin & Gert. I wonder how many remember standing halfway into the mirror and lifting their arm and leg? Such fond memories of the past.

There is a lady related to Nin that comes to the reunions. Her name is Margaret, nee Spurrier, Derek's sister. They lived at bottom of High Road, New Southgate.
