I used to have trolley races down the hill, quite often I did not make it. That was so many years ago. 1953 through 1956/7. The bollards where not there then. We used to go scumping on the allotments on the left, food was sparse. This is when mad Eric used to ride his tricycle around the area, always dragging a little dog on the end of a piece of string with so many puppies in hot persuit. I remember when he let the hand brake off Thompsons veg van and crashed it on the bend down the hill, some of the customers were still inside. I think they were all OK.
