Ah, but I miss the enveloping Virginia Creeper, still glorious twenty years earlier. And the windows obscured by the tree, far right, were to the Library, where my PrivateStudy would be enlivened by watching the struggles of trolley bus conductors to reconnect their vehicle to the overhead wires.

I believe the room above the entrance was the headmaster’s study. I recall being invited in there on one occasion when the occupant, Mr Arthur King (aka King Arthur) told me to bend over so that he could whack me six times with a cane. That wouldn’t go down too well today but I can’t say it did me any harm!
